History

The building which is now Boozie’s has a long and distinguished past. While we’ve heard rumors that it has been a livery stable and a brothel, we have only been able to verify the following facts. Built in 1899, this location originally housed the Davenport Water Company and Dr. Allen’s medical offices. Later, it became the Trio Restaurant, which may have been a reference to the three gentlemen who owned it or to the Tri-Cities of Rock Island, Moline, and Davenport. (Of course today’s Quad Cities also encompasses Bettendorf.) The large safe upstairs was installed when Walsh Construction Company occupied these quarters. In later years, a boutique used the mezzanine to feature mannequins and other displays, and an antique store made this building their home. In the mid-70’s, the Ballister Pub was established here. But Boozie had always wanted a business of his own, and in 1979, Boozie’s Bar and Grille became the first downtown business owned and operated by a feline. Sadly, Boozie is no longer with us, but we carry on his tradition of catering to our clientele with good food served by good people. Boozie would have wanted it that way.
